The computer industry has begun a major migration from the older-generation parallel ATA physical storage interface to the new Serial ATA (SATA) standard, offering much higher speeds and significant space savings. MoSys dramatically reduces the complexity of designing next-generation SATA subsystems, providing comprehensive SATA components in the form of proven, drop-in IP for systems on chips (SoCs).
Using MoSys SATA IP, makers of next-generation computer and storage systems can easily implement SATA interfaces, controllers and bridges precisely tuned to the needs of specific applications. MoSys SATA IP is ideal for applications such as:
- PCs
- Disk drives
- RAID and NAS storage systems
- Personal video recorders (PVRs)
- Advanced set-top boxes
- Game consoles
MoSys SATA products include SATA physical layer (PHY) cores supporting SATA I (1.5Gbs) and II (3.0Gbs) specifications, in single- and dual-channel configurations. The PHY cores integrate seamlessly with MoSys’s SATA Transport and Link Layer Core to reduce design time and increase first-pass success.
MoSys Serial ATA IP offerings:
- SATA 1.5 Gigabits/s Gen 1 (SATA I) Physical Layer Core: complete 1- or 2-channel 1.5 Gbs PHY, compliant with SATA I Std.
- SATA 3.0 Gigabits/s Gen 2 (SATA II) Physical Layer Core: complete 3.0 Gbs 2-channel PHY, compliant with SATA II. Available in general (G) and low-voltage (LV) processes.
- SATA Transport and Link Layer Core: integrated SATA transport and link layers. Available in Gen 1 and Gen 2 versions.
- IDE-to-SATA Host/Device Controller: Complete controller for IDE-to-SATA bridge; can function in host or storage device.
- PCI-X-to-SATA 1 Host Controller: Complete host controller for PCI-X-to-SATA bridge. Includes advanced DMA (ADMA) for superior performance and four SATA ports at 1.5Gbs per port.
Range of Solutions
Like MoSys’s other IP offerings, the SATA IP is fully proven, production-ready and available in solutions tuned to the needs of fabless semiconductor companies and integrated device manufacturers (IDMs).
